Andy Rourke, the bassist for the English rock band The Smiths, has died after battling pancreatic most cancers. He was 59 years previous.
“It’s with deep disappointment that we announce the passing of Andy Rourke after a prolonged sickness with pancreatic most cancers,” Rourke’s former bandmate, guitarist Johnny Marr, wrote on Twitter.
“Andy might be remembered as a sort and delightful soul by those that knew him and as a supremely gifted musician by music followers. We request privateness at this unhappy time.”
Rourke joined The Smiths in 1982 and performed on all 4 of its studio albums. He remained with the band till its break up in 1987. After The Smiths, Rourke performed on frontman Morrissey’s solo music and in addition labored with Sinéad O’Connor and the Pretenders.
In 2007, Rourke fashioned the rock group Freebass with fellow bassists Mani and Peter Hook. The trio carried out collectively till 2010. He went on to maneuver to New York Metropolis and created the choice rock band D.A.R.Ok. together with Olé Koretsky and the Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan.
